dont lose your head

Well. What a week.

Last Monday was HVAC install day. Our front yard with all the old stuff was a disaster area. They were here for nearly 12 hours that day.

The new ductwork takes up SO MUCH more attic space šŸ™ I could just barely fit everything back in. I had just cleaned this space and our closet spaces out and was proud of how much room I made… now the attic room is gone šŸ™

Tuesday they were back to clean our ducts and finish up the smaller unit. Took all day again and there was popcorn knocked off the popcorn ceilings under every single duct they worked on – including all over my sewing machine :\

So, HVAC fixed. What else could go wrong? Oh the dryer broke. Yay. Thankfully Chase was able to fix it. What else could go wrong? Oh the garage door spring fucking broke friday night. I’m seriously going to sage my house at this point.

On to happier topics…

Ooooh got a fun shipment!

One of these wigs is my new Padme wig!

This was so worth the extra $10 to have it done on a smaller wig cap. It actually fits my head pretty well unlike every other lacefront I’ve ever gotten (which is why I rarely get lacefronts — outside of my Custom Wig Co wig of course which fits like a gloooooove)

Wednesday I was off, so i took Kev to see The Marvels, and we discovered a bunch of popcorn flavoring.

And I had to get this cup.

Thursday was thanksgiving!

We had our usual family lunch, good times.

Came home and that night Chase cooked a steak and for the sides, I’d gotten 2 of the homechef thanksgiving sides with our shipment that week. I was really looking forward to them, but… both were kinda bad? The mashed potatoes were ok, except 1 of the 4 potatoes they sent was bad and unusable (it was grey on the inside and smelled bad.) The brussel sprouts were tough and the bacon and onions cooked with it were just meh. Oh well, at least the steak was good.

Friday we ran some errands and then I came home to get ready to go see SIX!

I bought this puffy sleeve shirt at target a while back, and picked up this tudor stays top on amazon for $30. For the $30 it actually wasn’t bad? The straps were too short but that was my only complaint. (I had wanted the green one but it wouldn’t have come in time…so I settled on the black.) I had wanted to wear a french hood with it but i’d just have to take it off at the show to not block people so I don’t worry with it. I did wear my Anne “B” necklace… which broke in the car. Thankfully the pearls that broke off just landed in my top, so they didn’t get lost and I can fix it later.
(More stuff breaking!! SEE!)

We went to dinner at Bishop beforehand which was good, and then off to the show – I LOVED it! It was so good! I’ve heard a lot of snippets of it over the past few years (and used a few on tiktok) so I knew some of the songs already but hearing them in context was so much better.

Katherine of Aragon’s costume was my fav. So tempting.

I copied this shower rod/garland idea from a tiktok. I think I could’ve used longer garland and I hate the battery boxes are visible… but oh well it’s cute.

Saturday I got back to work on Honeymoon Leia.

Here’s the actual top and skirt panels (cut out of the real fabric… last week I think I just showed lining layers)

So I struggled with the skirt ALLLL last week. I had numbered the panels to keep them straight… but no rhyme or reason to where I put the numbers? Like as I was taking the lining layer/test layer apart, I would iron it and then number a corner. So that was helpful in keeping them in order… but not for which direction they go.

So after cutting my real fabric using the test layers as a pattern, I put the test layer back together to use as lining. Then put the outer real fabric layer together. And of course they didn’t match up. I determined that I’d put one of the last panels on backwards, so took that off and reattached… and it still didn’t match up. After struggling with this for a few days I finally just took the entire lining layer apart and started pinning it onto the real fabric layer so I could just copy how the real fabric layer was put together. Out of the 6 panels, 5 of them matched up fine… and the 6th wouldn’t fit no matter what I did. Finally I just threw up my hands in frustration, said fuck it, and redid the real fabric layer with french seams. Who needs lining anyway!!!

With that done I moved back to the bodice – I needed to make a pattern for the collar section so everything could be dyed at once. But as soon as I put the bodice on my form to figure it out… I realized that the neckline shape wasn’t right at all. UGH! I had to repattern and cut new lining and real fabric layers to fix it.

New lining layer — neckline now curves around closer to my neck and further up the back.

With that done I could finally go dye my purple panels – the 4 hip pieces, collar pieces and front bodice panel.

They ended up a tad more saturated than I planned but oh well. I’m more concerned about these weird grey marks on some of them, which I think might’ve come from my old dye pot? I washed out since last dye but the last dye was that new true black rit dye. Blegh. I was too tired last night to figure it out.

Speaking of last night, after dinner I started feeling crappy. I ended up sick to my stomach, so fun. Don’t know what caused it, Chase was fine. My stomach kept hurting all night but thankfully no up and down to the bathroom, and now seems to be ok.

Last couple of things…

Look at my cute Mema. Dad scanned this from a tiny photo, cleaned it up and printed a big version.

@patloikaphotoworks did this incredible edit of the pic he took of me at dragoncon!! I’m obsessed. I’ve been trying to figure out how to do some kind of sand dune-esque photoshoot since starting the costume and there’s NOTHING like that anywhere around here… but now who needs it! I’ve got this! Thanks so much Pat!!!

So this week, more Honeymoon Leia work, I’m really hoping to get it all pretty much assemble by the end of this week. I’m not going to commit to having it DONE, even though I think I could if everything goes smoothly. It’ll just be a nice surprise if I do.
